EFFIE - A funeral service celebrating the life of Doris Goodson Fuqua was held at 11 a.m., Monday, June 18, 2018, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers, in Alexandria, with Reverends Clay Fuqua, Kevin Roberts and Andrew Orr officiating. Burial followed in Hayes Cemetery in Effie.
Doris Goodson Fuqua, age 67, of Effie, passed away on Friday, June 15, 2018 at Rapides Regional Medical Center. Born on August 20, 1950, Doris was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church, Alexandria, Republican Women and Phi Beta Kappa. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from LSUA and later received her Master’s +30 from Northwestern University. During her working career she worked for Rapides Parish School Board as a teacher and assistant principal. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who was dearly loved and will be sadly missed by those that knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clay Fuqua, Sr.; stepdaughter, Brenda Fuqua; parents, Henry and Iva Lee Wade Goodson; and brother, Oscar Goodson.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her sons, Bryan (companion, Gabrielle Barber) Ross and Clay (Christy) Fuqua, Jr.; stepson, Darryl (Debra) Fuqua; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Vee Wade; brother, Freddie Goodson; and a host of other family members and friends.
Pallbearers honored to serve were Jordon Fuqua, Preston Fuqua, Bryan Ross, Lloyd Fuqua, Tony Fuqua and Robert Shelton. Honorary pallbearers were Michael and Kevin Fuqua.
