Floyd Anderson, Simmesport

Funeral service for Floyd Anderson of Bunkie will begin at 11:00am on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at New Light Baptist Church in Evergreen with Rev. Gary Ford officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:30am until the time of service at New Light Baptist Church in Evergreen. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Floyd Anderson, age 76, passed away at his home in Bunkie on Saturday, November 12th, 2022.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.” II Timothy 4: 7-8

Floyd Anderson was born in Simmesport, Louisiana on February 24, 1946, to the late Mr. Frank Anderson, Sr., and Mrs. Iner Lee Anderson. He was the ninth child out of ten children. Floyd grew up in a Christian household. He was baptized at an early age by the Reverend Stanley at New Bethel Baptist Church in Simmesport, Louisiana. Floyd was drafted to be in the military in November of 1965. He served as a Private First Class in the United States Army. He bravely fought in the Vietnam War, earning the Vietnam Service Metal, 2 Bronze Service Stars, the National Defense Service Metal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Floyd was also designated as Sharpshooter (Rifle). He was Honorably Discharged from the United States Army in November 1967.

Floyd married his first love, Mildred Sampson Anderson in 1967. They moved to Los Angeles, California, and soon after, they welcomed their firstborn, Floyd Anderson, Jr. in 1969. In 1975, they were blessed with their second child, Rosalind Anderson Jackson. Floyd was employed by DuPont in several capacities for 15 years. Afterward, he was a very successful entrepreneur for many years of his life. He owned a trucking company, and he also owned a convenience store in Compton, California, and Harbor City, California.

Floyd returned to his birthplace, Simmesport, LA in 1992. He met his second wife, Carol Augustine. Floyd and Carol were happily married until her passing in 2016. They were married for 22 years. Later in his life, Floyd was employed by the Army Corp of Engineers as a Rigger. He retired after 13 years of service. Floyd has always been a humble servant to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Most recently, he served as a deacon at New Light Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Gary Ford.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Frank and Iner Anderson; his son, Floyd Anderson, Jr.; his brothers: Frank Anderson Jr., Irie Anderson, Jesse Anderson, Leon Anderson, and William Anderson; his sisters: Mamie Marie Jones and Octavia Lilly; stepdaughter, Priston Lee Augustine; and his 2nd wife, Carol Anderson.

Floyd leaves to cherish his fond memories his daughter, Rosalind Anderson Jackson and her husband, Bowie Jackson III; sisters, Lela Anderson and Willie Fisher; ex-wife, Mildred Ann Anderson; nephews, John (Tracy) and William (Billy) Anderson; special friend, Helen Goudeau; stepchildren, Virginia, Clarissa, and Samuel Hayes; and a host of loving nieces and nephews, extended family and friends in Louisiana and California.
