Franklin Flanders Sr., 80, Hessmer

Funeral Mass for Franklin Flanders Sr. of Hessmer will begin at 12:00 PM on Monday, June 19, 2023, at Christ the King Catholic Church (657 Main St. Simmesport, LA 71369) with Fr. Edwin Rodriguez-Hernandez officiating. The burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Franklin Benjamin Flanders Sr., age 80, passed away on Thursday, June 15, 2023 at his residence. He was born in Gretna, Louisiana, on July 16, 1942 to Louise (Ferguson) Flanders and Robert Seal Flanders, Sr. He married Arlene Riche on October 17, 1964 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Simmesport. Together they raised three children: Franklin Jr, Christopher, and Bernadette, and took in many foster children.

He took pride in being a member of the Knights of Columbus 4th degree in Council 3088 in Hessmer and served many rules including District Deputy and Faithful Navigator.

Frank Flanders received a degree in Banking from the LSU School of Banking of the South. His banking career culminated in his retirement as Vice President of Cottonport Bank.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Christopher Flanders (Vickie) of Zachary; daughter, Bernadette Shepherd (Patrick Conningham) of Boyce; brother, David Flanders of Mansura; sister, Louella Randolf (Vernon) of Carriere, MS; sisters-in-law, Joan Flanders of Vienna, VA and Fran Flanders of Marksville; eight grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by wife, Arlene Riche Flanders; son, Franklin Flanders Jr.; his parents, Robert S. Flanders Sr. and Louise Ferguson Flanders; brother, Robert S. Flanders Jr.; and sister, Kathryn Collins.

Visitation will begin at 8:00 AM until time of service on Monday, June 19, 2023 at Escude Funeral Home in Simmesport (625 Main St. Simmesport, LA 71369)
