Henrietta V. Ovella,Poland

Henrietta V. Ovella, a stellar woman and pillar of the Poland community, passed peacefully surrounded by her family, in her home, on January 31, 2024 in Alexandria, Louisiana.

In honor of Henrietta, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 2, 2024 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church with Reverend Thomas Kennedy officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis de Sales Mausoleum in Echo.

Henrietta, lovingly known as Mom, Mawmaw, Momo Henni and Auntie, was a dedicated mother and housewife devoting her life to her family. She attended Poland High School, where she laid the foundation for her lifelong love of learning. In her free time, Henrietta enjoyed golfing, baking cakes, canning, cooking, gardening, playing cards, fishing and picking pecans. Her culinary skills delighted her loved ones and her golfing adventures brought her joy and relaxation.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 50 years, Emile Ovella, Jr.; children, James “Jimmy” Ponthier (Angie), Minell Dallman (Gina), Debbie Chauvin (Jay), Nancy Westmoreland (Fred), Toni Lynn Ovella Tyson (Ronnie) and Cathy Ovella Wells (David); 11 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; sister, Lola Belt and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie and Ora Lacombe Voorhies; son, Jeffery Ponthier; brothers, Milburn Voorhies, James Lee Voorhies, Odell Minell Voorhies, Jessie William Voorhies and sister, Barbara Charrier.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at Hixson Brothers Funeral home, Alexandria from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and will resume on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.

Pallbearers honored to serve will be Craig Monfra, Joseph Ponthier, Joshua Ponthier, Kenny Ponthier, Timothy Dallman and Jeremy DeVanie. Honorary pallbearers will be Nicholas Monfra, Michael Ledet, Dallas Cheramie and Jackson DeVanie.

Henrietta will be dearly missed by her family, friends and all those who had the privilege of knowing her. Her loving spirit and contributions to the Poland community will be remembered and cherished forever.
