John Barney O’Bryan, Marksville native

Private graveside services for John "Barney" Barnett O’Bryan will be held at a later date. Burial will be in the Cushman Cemetery in Marksville.
O’Bryan was born in Marksville on August 31, 1939, to the late Dorothy Bettevy O’Bryan and John E. O’Bryan. He passed away on January 21, 2019 at Hermann Memorial Hospital Northeast, in Humble, Texas, from complications of diabetes.
He graduated from Marksville High School in 1957 and Texas A.&M. in 1961. Barney went into the Air Force after college, then later moved to Sacramento, CA, where he worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 40 years.
Barney, age 79, was a very gentle person who loved animals, music and history. He played the French horn in high school and college. In his later years it was discovered that he was mildly autistic; however, he was very intelligent and had a fantastic memory.
He will be sorely missed by his two sisters, Sallie O’Bryan McNeill of Wylie, Texas and Deborah O’Bryan Coco of Humble, Texas.; nephew Bryan (Judy) McNeill and their daughter, Grace McNeill of Sachse, Texas and nephews, Ben (Amy) Coco, their son, Elan of Herndon, Virginia, and Jared (Theresa) Coco and their children Evangeline and Jean-Luc of Huffman, Texas.
