Laszlo Szekely, a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2023, at the age of 86 at his home in Moreauville. Born on April 19, 1937, in Fogadj Istan, Romania, Laszlo had a tumultuous childhood and began working diligently from a young age. Coming to the United States during the Hungarian Revolution in 1956, Laszlo made his way to New Orleans by sheer determination. At just 19 years old, he found himself embarking on a journey of resilience and independence. Through his unwavering determination, Laszlo learned the trade of masonry and worked tirelessly to build a successful career.

It was in New Orleans that Laszlo's path would intersect with his beloved wife, Frances. They met amidst a game of soccer, or as Laszlo would call it, "football," in Audubon Park. Their connection was undeniable, and soon they began a courtship that would last a lifetime. The couple celebrated 60 years of marriage and were the proud parents of a beautiful family.

Laszlo was a man of deep gratitude for the life he had built and held a special place in his heart for his family. Known for his unwavering love and devotion, he adored spending time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. His warmth and kindness extended beyond his immediate family, as he also cherished his relationships with Frances' family. Despite the distance, he still visited his loved ones in Romania, embracing the opportunity to reconnect with his roots.

In his leisure time, Laszlo found solace and joy in activities that allowed him to connect with nature. Whether it was shrimping, fishing, hunting, or water skiing, he was at his happiest when surrounded by the great outdoors. Laszlo also had a passion for motorcycles, both dirt bikes and street bikes, adding an element of excitement to his life.

Laszlo “Louis” Szekely will be deeply missed but forever remembered for his unwavering love, strength, and zest for life. May his soul find eternal peace, and may his memory continue to inspire and uplift all those whose lives he touched.
