Fr. Francis Miller OFM SUB., Pastor of Christ the King Church in Lafayette, will offer the Requiem Mass. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Survivors include her children, Anastasia Crochet Fournet, Kim Crochet LaFleur and her husband, Ted, Connie Crochet Shook and her husband, Tom, Gerald Crochet, Jr. and his wife, Linda, Delmar Crochet, II, and his wife, Rickie; her 20 grandchildren, Andrew Fournet, Dorothy Fournet Frost, Elise Fournet Patin, Margeaux LaFleur Gorman, Clélie LaFleur Hebert, Dominique LaFleur, Meredith Shook Mendoza, Tom Shook, III, Elizabeth Shook, Josephine Shook, Gerald Crochet, III, Cannon Crochet, Colette Crochet, Jacques Crochet, Dominic Crochet, Hunter Crochet, Cullen Crochet, Austin Crochet, Julliane Crochet, Katherine Crochet; her twenty two great grandchildren Lucas, Isabella, Allie-Grace, Meara, Teddy, John, Sebastian, Louis, Zoe, Agnes, David, Roman, Jonah, Thérese, Xavier, Gwenevere, Eliezer, Jon, Lily, Julia, Henry, and Iris; her sister, Laura Spruill and her husband, Judge Kerry Spruill; sister in law Charlotte Roy; her nieces, Renee Y. Roy, and Nichole S. Roy; and her nephew William C. Spruill.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Tesca Roy and Dorothy Selby Roy; her brothers, T.R. Roy, Jr., and Nicholas Selby Roy; and one grandchild, Michael Gabriel Fournet.

Marguerite Josephine Roy Crochet was born on September 17, 1938, as the second child of Dr. Tesca Roy, Jr. and his wife, Dorothy Selby Roy, following her big brother T.R. Roy III. Later, Nicholas Selby Roy and Laura Louise Roy would complete the family.

Beautiful, petite, and feminine, little Marguerite would soon be given the nickname “Poupee” by her smitten father, for she very much resembled a porcelain doll. Poupee enchanted her family and classmates with her spunk, playfulness, and sense of humor.

Marguerite was also incredibly gifted musically. She was an operatic first soprano, Chopinesque pianist, and alto saxophonist. These amazing characteristics, plus her intelligence, work ethic, and high standards, garnered her justly-deserved honors as Avoyelles Parish Queen and LSU Darling of the LSU marching band. Yet, despite astonishing talent, she was unbelievably introverted and suffered from stage fright. She never sought the limelight but instead lifted others with her behind-the-scenes encouragement.

It was as an LSU freshman that she met the LSU senior, Gerald Crochet. They married on April 18, 1958. They welcomed their firstborn on April 5, 1960; by October 18, 1965, they had five energetic and “into-everything” children. As a mother, she was beyond compare. How she wrangled and nurtured five completely different personalities so exceptionally well is a testament to her devotion to family.

Marguerite lived to see 21 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. It was one of her grandchildren who, when commenting on her cooking, described her as someone who did “ordinary things extraordinarily well.”

Marguerite was a private person; she shared her faith beliefs in tête-à-têtes with those closest to her. Her inexplicable je ne sais quoi will be deeply missed.

Pallbearers will be Kris Patin, Ted Gorman, Thomas Shook, III, Cannon Crochet, Austin Crochet and Bill Spruill.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Gerald Crochet, Jr., and Delmar Crochet, II.

The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN location on Friday, October 19, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and will continue on Saturday from 10:00 AM until time of services.

A service of hymns and the Rosary will be led on Friday at 6:00 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home.
