Mary Alice Hayes, age 79, of Effie, passed away peacefully on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2018 at Oak Haven Community Care Center in Center Point, Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her parents, Quentin and Lucy Bates Hayes; two sisters, Sharon Kaye Hayes Flemming, Beverly Jean Hayes Doughty and a nephew Shane Morace.
Mary was a graduate of Lafargue High School in Effie, Louisiana. After graduation, Mary enlisted in the U.S. Navy completing her basic training in Bainbridge, Maryland and served out of Quonset Point, Rhode Island. After her discharge from the Navy, she discovered her love for the Medical Field which lead to her earning her Diploma degree in Nursing from Confederate Memorial Hospital in Shreveport. Her Nursing Career spanned throughout many years from Dallas, TX, Cleveland, OH, Kansas City, MO then to our local VA Hospital in Pineville, LA. She then moved to Shreveport Medical Center where she worked as the Nurse Manager of the Dialysis Unit from which she retired in March of 2002. During her time employed at the Medical Center as a dialysis nurse, she lovingly attended to and nourished patients of all ages. She particularly loved taking care of the young ones at the dialysis unit and believed that nursing was healing humanities hurts. Mary liked to travel and loved her family, friends and pets. She enjoyed visits from her nieces and nephews but was especially close to her sisters. Mary was lovingly cared for in her last years by her sisters, Derra and Lucetta, David and his wife Margaret and their son, Lance Hughes.
Those left to cherish her memory include two sisters; Lucetta Hayes Haftmann, Derra Hayes Paulk, both of Effie and numerous nieces and nephews.
