Mary Speer, 84, Marksville

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary “Katan” Juneau Speer will be held on Friday, September 10, 2021at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home with Father Dan O’Connor officiating. Entombment will be in St. Joseph Mausoleum #2 in Marksville. Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Marksville.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 9, 2021in the Chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. A rosary recitation will be held at 6:30 p.m on Thursday in the Chapel.
Mrs. Speer, age 84, of Marksville, entered eternal rest on Monday, September 6, 2021 at Tulane Medical Center in New Orleans, LA.
She was a dedicated teacher for many years at Hessmer High School, principal at Marksville High School and retired as principal at Marksville Middle School after 30 years of service with Avoyelles Parish School Board. She enjoyed reading, making flower arrangements and spending time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lindsey and Elsie Ball Juneau; husband, Marvin Speer and brother, Bobby Juneau.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Glenn David Speer (Carmen) of Carencro, Richard Speer (Sandra) of Marksville, Keith Randal Speer (Jeannie) of Marksville and Scott Speer of Marksville; one sister, Donna Sue Dufour of Baton Rouge; five grandchildren, Shelby Speer, Brandon Speer, Amy Speer, Eric Speer, Lindsey Speer, Jennifer Usie; two great grandchildren, Harlan Thibodeaux, and Harrison Speer.
Pallbearers honored to serve will be Brandon Speer, Eric Speer, Aiden Griggs, Mike Dufour, Jason Englert, and James Strother. Honorary pallbearers will be Coach Donald Sampson and Anthony “Twine” Augustine.
