Priscilla Jeansonne, 81

A memorial service for Mrs. Priscilla Roy Jeansonne will be held at 11:00a.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Mansura with Fr. Irion St. Romain officiating. Burial will be held at a later date. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at Hixson Brothers Funeral Home in Marksville. Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Marksville.

Mrs. Jeansonne, age 81 of Mansura, passed away on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at her residence. She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Jeansonne; granddaughter, Morgan Jeansonne; brother, Daniel Roy; parents, Curtis Roy and Mildred Brassette Roy Durand.

Survivors include one son Chet Jeansonne of Mansura; one daughter, Joan Jeansonne Ward of Pineville; three sisters, Bernadine Bordelon of Jennings, Elaine Juneau of Baton Rouge, Dianna Desselle of Sulphur and two grandchildren, Kayla Morrissey of Bossier City and Jamie Ward of Virginia.

Priscilla was born and raised in Mansura, LA. After graduating from Mansura High School, she married, had two children, and worked in the housekeeping department and as a nurse’s aide at Marksville Hospital. She attended the Alexandria Trade School’s nursing program and in 1968 graduated top of her class as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). In 1978 Priscilla graduated from LSUA’s Nursing Program with Associate degree in Nursing. While working full time and raising a family she continued her education and in 1982 graduated from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA with her BSN and in 1985 earned her master’s degree in Critical Care Nursing Education. Priscilla was part of a group of nurses that graduated from Northwestern through the outreach program that was started in Alexandria. In 1987 she continued her education at NSU post graduate study. She completed academic requirements for recognition by the LSBN as Clinical Nurse Specialist Advance Practice. In 1993 she again attended NSU post graduate study. Completed requirements for recognition by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing (LSBN) as Nurse Practitioner for advanced practice. In 2009 completed Legal Nurse Consultant Continuing Education Course through the Louisiana State University Health Science Center School of Nursing and the Nurse Attorney Institute.

Priscilla was a member of both the Cenla and the National chapters the AACN, ANA, NLN, AHA (from which she was a certified CPR instructor), Sigma Theta Tau and the Phi Kappa Phi Honorary Society. In 1987 she was named Nurse of the Year while working at Rapides General Hospital. In 2003 she was named Clinical Practice Nurse of the Year by the Alexandria District Nurse’s Association.

Priscilla worked at Rapides Regional Medical Center and during her long career there, she was in the role of Clinical Nurse Specialist for critical care services and along with other quality nurses wrote and implemented nursing protocols and implemented nursing phase of the Coronary Bypass Surgery program. She also worked in the role of Nursing Supervisor and was an ACL instructor. Her greatest love was bedside nursing working in ICU. Priscilla also worked as an Assistant Professor of Nursing at LSUA. During her time at LSUA she mentored many students both in the classroom and in the clinical setting. Her teaching focus was Advanced Medical/Surgical, Critical Care and Cardiology. She loved the clinical setting at the VA Hospital where the veterans absolutely looked for to having the student nurses take care of them. She was a Clinical Preceptor for Nursing Graduate Students at NSU and McNeese University. From 1986 to 2014 she was an Article Reviewer for Critical Care Nurse Magazine.

In 1991 to 1994 Priscilla was appointed and served two terms to represent Louisiana on the American Nurses’ Association Institute of Members on Nursing Practice and presented Louisiana data to a Committee in Washington, D. C. on numerous occasions. She was also appointed Chairman by the LSNA Board of Directors for three terms.

After a long successful nursing career Priscilla retired but never slowed down. She served as The Avoyelles Parish Board Member on the Central Louisiana Human Services District (CCHSD).
She was a dedicated Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for the Avoyelles Community and Youth Coalition. She served as Chairman of the St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church Council in Mansura as well as being an active member of the Ladies Altar Society.

Priscilla gave generously a Scholarship to the LSUA Nursing Department, and to the Louisiana Technical Community College’s LPN program in Cottonport.

To round out Priscilla’s vast interest are her hobbies. She loved gardening, raising, and enjoying her flowers and plants and sewing. She was a member of the Cottonport Quilters Guild. She was always excited to show the many quilts and pillows she made. If you have a quilt or pillow made by Priscilla, then you have a treasured item. She was an advent reader of true history and loved to research. She was always ready to share her knowledge with anyone willing to share her passion.

Priscilla was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, friend, mentor, educator, nurse, and caregiver that was professional, ethical, knowledgeable, skilled, courageous, strong, brave, humble and she always held her beliefs to the highest of integrity both in her professional life and her personal life. Priscilla will be missed deeply by her children, grandchildren, siblings, and their families as well as by all her friends and the nursing community. Many called on her for advice and guidance, now God has called her home. We love and miss you Pris!

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Mansura or the charity of your choice in the memory of Mrs. Priscilla Jeansonne.
