Salvatore Mitchell Torneo, Sr., Marksville

Sal was born in Marksville, La. but moved to New Orleans, LA. with his family at a very young age. He started playing guitar at the age of 16. By the age of 20, he was playing professionally in the French Quarters in New Orleans, LA. Sal played with many notable local musicians including Freddy Fender, Dr. John, Joe Barry, and Frankie Ford. He was inducted into the Louisiana Hall of Fame as the bass player for “Billy Bell and the Dominoes”.

Sal later moved back to Marksville, LA. where he continued to play as a solo musician until he retired, He was also an active member of Cornerstone Church in Marksville, LA.

Sal is survived by his sons, Salvatore M. Torneo, Jr., Troy A. Torneo, and Kevin J. Toreno. Also, his grandchildren Damek, Megan, Taylor, Jacob, and great grandchild, Piper.

Relatives and friends are invited to graveside service on Friday. January 19, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, New Orleans.
