BUNKIE - Funeral services for Sharkie Lee Ryland will be Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Bunkie with Rev. David Trimbur officiating. Burial will follow in the Christ the King Cemetery in Simmesport under the direction of Melancon Funeral Home, Bunkie.
The family requests that visitation be observed at Melancon Funeral Home on Monday, March 19, 2018 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and at the First Baptist Church of Bunkie on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 from 9 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m.
Mr. Ryland, age 81, of Bunkie, passed away on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at his residence. Born on February 11, 1937, he was a retired employee of CLECO, having worked there for over 30 years. He was active in organizing the Bunkie Jaycees many years ago and served as president. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bunkie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sharkie and Myrtle Kimble Ryland; his brothers, Willard and Otis Ryland; and his sister, May Kimble.
His survived by his wife of 59 years, Vickey Moreau Ryland; his daughter, Brenda (Michael) Descant of Bueche; his three sons, Terry Ryland of League City, Texas, Lonnie (Stephanie) Ryland of Alexandria and Barry (Sonya) Ryland of Bunkie; his two sisters, Margie Donachrica of Erwinville and Nora (Jerry) Tessier of Greenwell Springs; his eight grandchildren, Brandon Descant, Nathan Descant, Eryn Ryland Dopson, Alex Ryland, Kyle Ryland, Lacie Ryland LaCaze, Hollie Ryland and Corbin Sharkie Ryland; and his seven great grandchildren, Cohen Orillion Descant, Kaden Dopson, Kole Dopson, Knox Dopson, Paige LaCaze, Piper LaCaze and Anistyn Ryland.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Floyd Kimble, Rob Ryland, Brad Moreau, Sammy Cashio, Brandon Descant and Corbin Ryland. Honorary Pallbearers are Kyle Ryland, Alex Ryland and Nathan Descant.
