Shirley Ann LaCour Ducote, 89, Cottonport

Shirley Ann LaCour Ducote, also known as Gamby to her grand and great grandchildren, 89, of Cottonport Louisiana, passed away on November 5th, 2023.

Shirley was born on August 5th, 1934 to Edward and Lorina LaCour in Moreauville, Louisiana. After Shirley, the first in her family, graduated from Moreauville High School in 1952, she went to work at the telephone company in New Orleans. On January 19th, 1954, Shirley and Ray married and lived in New Orleans for a short time. They returned to their hometown, Cottonport, where lifelong friends and family were around every corner. They had three children, Randy, Lorraine, and Paula. Shirley and Ray were married for 54 years before Ray’s passing in 2008.

Shirley had a strong Catholic faith and was well known in her parish for her spunky personality. Most days, Shirley could be found in her garden with her sweet dog Gigi enjoying and tending to her beautiful flowers. Shirley was a devoted grandmother. She was happiest having fun with her family and was always looking forward to the next family get together.

Shirley was predeceased by her husband Ray and ten of her eleven siblings. She is survived by her three children, Randy Ducote and wife Jeanne of Parker, Colorado, Lorraine D. Jennings and husband Rex of Vernal, Utah and Paula D. Thompson and husband Kerry of Columbia; nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and her constant companion in her final years, Gigi the dog.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2023 beginning at 9:00a.m. until the time of service with a rosary to be recited at 10:20a.m. in St. Mary’s Assumption Catholic Church in Cottonport. Services will follow at St. Mary’s Assumption Catholic Church beginning at 11:00a.m. with Father Charles Ray officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Assumption Cemetery #2 under the direction of Escude Funeral Home of Cottonport.
