Sylvia Marie Gremillion, Cottonport native

Sylvia Marie Gremillion (nee Chenevert) was born at home on Christmas Day, 1932 and died Sunday, April 21, 2024. A native of Cottonport, Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana, she spent her youth on the family farm. She is survived by her children, Christopher James (Patricia Davis), Ina Mae (Andrew Alvin Navarre), Sandra Dolores (John Maurice O'Brien), and Ami Marie (James Francis Riente, Jr.), grandchildren Lance Jason Gremillion (fiancée Candice Nicole Scheck), Eric Joseph Gremillion (Rachael Anne Jeanfreau), Brett James Gremillion, Marcelle Alyce Navarre (Joshua Philip Downer), Lynette Rachelle Navarre (Justin William Schleis, Jr.), Caitlin Annaleigh Winter (Jonathan "Tre" Simmons, III), and Cara Elizabeth Winter (fiancé Mason Lee Belle), and five great grandchildren, Laurel Shea O'Brien, Lyla Mae Downer, Cameron Hayes Downer, Julien Alexander Gremillion, and Emmanuelle Marie Gremillion, and a brother, Edison Jules Chenevert, Jr. She was predeceased by her husband Russell John Gremillion, grandsons Evan Scott O'Brien and Kyle Andrew O'Brien, parents, Edison Jules Chenevert, Senior and Ina Virginie Smith, brothers Reuben Joseph, Marvin Lee, and Raymond Anthony Chenevert and numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law. She was a graduate of Cottonport High School and attended LSU. A wife, mother, and accomplished homemaker, she loved to cook for and casually entertain family and friends. She was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Baton Rouge and taught PSR for many years. She also was a cornerstone of the St. Jude prayer line for many years and a member of the Baton Rouge Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Visitation will be held at the St. Jude Catholic Church in Baton Rouge on Thursday, May 9, 2024, beginning 9:00 am. Recitation of the rosary will begin at 10:10 am followed immediately by the Mass of Christian Burial. The remains will be interred at 1:00 pm at the Port Hudson National Cemetery, Port Hudson, Louisiana immediately following the Mass at St. Jude. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
