Verly Mae Mouton, 91, Morrow

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered for Verly Mae Lavigne Mouton on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Morrow, LA with Fr. Donavan Labbe officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery under the direction of Melancon Funeral Home, Bunkie.

The family has requested that visitation be observed at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Morrow on Saturday, January 8, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. with a Rosary Service at 10:30 a.m.

Mrs. Verly Mae Mouton, a lifelong resident of Morrow, La transitioned to dwell in the house of the Lord on Saturday January 1, 2022, at the age of 91. She was born in 1930 in Plaisance Louisiana to the parents of John and Hazel Lavigne. She was the oldest of ten siblings. Mrs. Mouton was a loving mother and a devout Christian. Mrs. Mouton received Christ’s blessing at an early age.

She was baptized, made her first communion, and confirmation in church. She entered into holy matrimony with Joseph Earl Mouton who is now deceased. Her first domestic job was at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. She had the honor of serving several priests during her domestic watch. She was also hired by private homes because of her skillset. She was an active church member at St. Peter’s Catholic Church for many years until her health permitted. It never stopped her from sharing God’s loving words with anyone who came in contact with her. She also found time to chaperone at school events and support her children’s school endeavors in her earlier years. She loved to cook, sew, garden, make praline candy, and she loved Arts & Craft. She is preceded in death by her parents, John Lavigne and Hazel Malveaux Lavigne; her children, Albert Joseph Mouton, Earl Martin Mouton, and Paul Joyceman Mouton; her siblings, Doris Lavigne, Albertine Guillory, Mariel Lavigne, Veronica Tezeno, Ethel Fontenot, Charles Lavigne, Carroll Lavigne and Joyceman Lavigne; and her grandchild, Yuhanaa Mouton.

She is survived by her son, John Mouton of Big Cane, La; her daughter, Joyce Mouton Rivarde (Vernon) of Gonzales, La; her sister, Hazel Stewart of Houston, TX; her six grandchildren, Tazania Mouton (VA), Anthony Rivarde (TX), Naomi Golden (La), Paulette Mouton (La), Paul Mouton Jr (TX) and Adanisha Mouton (La); her ten great-grandchildren, Alayna Mouton (VA), Malike Mouton (TX), Amen Mouton (TX), Marquis Hawkins (La), Dornell Groom (La), Jonisha Jones (La), Diamond Benton (La), Tyrone Benton III (La), Kenneth Gipson III (La) and Alanisha Gipson (La); her great great grandchild, Drako Moten (La), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom she loved dearly.
