Verna Wilson, 95, Marksville

Funeral services for Mrs. Verna Lee Hayes Wilson will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 28th, 2023 in the Chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home, Marksville, LA. with Pastor Keith Manuel officiating. Interment will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Marksville.

Mrs. Wilson, age 95, of Marksville, LA., formerly of Effie, passed away on Tuesday, July 25th, 2023 in her residence in Marksville.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Calvin Hayes, Sr. and Parlee Bernard Hayes; 5 brothers, Aaron “Big Boy” Hayes, Oren “Pee-Wee” Hayes, Dayson (Jack) Hayes, Calvin Hayes, Jr. and Winston Hayes; 1 sister, Gilda Throne.

Mom was a fulltime housewife that dedicated and devoted her entire life to her family. She was the finest chef, problem solver, teacher, and above all the finest Christian Counselor and Witness you could ever have been raised by. Her values were instilled in each of us, and they have paved the way for our lives. Her guidance led each of her children to the Lord Jesus Christ. As Christians, our bond was forever unbroken in our faith.
She was very strong in her faith and loved her church and involved in all aspects of her church life.
She was very active in the Marksville Garden Club. Her love of flowers and working in her yard inspired her to take active roles for the beautification of her community.
Mother was also a fantastic spouse to our dad, James C. Wilson, Jr. “Jay.” They were married for 79 years, which made them the 2nd longest married couple in Louisiana. What a fantastic accomplishment for God’s definition of marriage. She was always a great supporter of Dad and inspired him to be successful at anything he did.
God placed Vera Lee Hayes Wilson on this earth to be a shining witness for Jesus Christ to all of those she met. Mom, job well done my good and faithful servant.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, James Clifton Wilson, Jr. “Jay C” of Marksville; 2 sons, James Kent Wilson of Marshall, TX; Bruce Allan Wilson (Cathy) of Baton Rouge, LA; 1 daughter, Priscilla Ann Wilson of Pineville, LA; 5 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers honored to serve will be Bruce Jacob “B.J.” Wilson, Jason Wilson, Brian Monk, Philip Dold, Jay Westbrook, and Jim Westbrook.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 28th, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral services in the Chapel.
