Obituary for David E. Lafargue

David Edwin Lafargue passed away on Monday August 10, 2026, at
his home with his wife and children surrounding his bedside. He was
73.
David lived life to the fullest. He loved God, his family and his friends.
Those who had the privilege of being called his friend will attest to his
integrity.
David was born on March 10, 1953. He attended Presentation
Catholic school, Marksville High School and graduated from the LSU
Law School in 1979.
David married his sweetheart, Minnie Laborde Lafargue on Feb. 14,
1976, whom he affectionately called “Girlie”. They celebrated their
50th anniversary recently with family and friends.   This gathering was
a joyful celebration of love and life.
He practiced law with his father, Edwin Lafargue for 20 years.
He served as Assistant DA under Eddie Knoll and Charles Riddle for
twenty-eight years. He did his homework. He never went to court
unprepared. He would get up in the early morning hours and go to his
office to get his mind ready for the challenges in the courtroom. He
was considered one of the smartest attorneys in the parish.
David loved nature and going to the camp at Grassy Lake. He would
write a grocery list of delicious foods to add to the cooking of his
squirrels, doves, squab, ducks or turtle, etc. He and his best friends
would eat better than in a fancy restaurant. 

As his children were growing up, he would teach them how to give a
real handshake when meeting an adult. He would say,” Look the
person in the eye, firmly shake their hand and say, “it is so nice to
meet you.”
Each day David would rise early in the morning to feed God’s beautiful
birds. David could name every bird and tell you where they originated.
He so enjoyed sitting on his patio just watching nature unfold as
David battled cancer for eight and a half long years. He was first
diagnosed with colon cancer and then pancreatic cancer. He was a
fighter. He never complained about his heavy cross. He was
determined to get the most enjoyment out of his life. He trusted in
God’s divine plan.
He had an unusual nickname. David was very agile and quick on his
feet in his younger years. His camp buddies called him “Kamala” after
a famous wrestler. David loved a good playful challenge.
David and Minnie had four children, Clay, Ashley, Carl and Lily.
Many Sunday afternoons they would load up the old burgundy truck,
get a box full of fried chicken and head out to Spring Bayou for a boat
ride. David was very familiar with the various waterways in Avoyelles.
He was so proud of his grandchildren. He loved it when they would
come visit and turn the household into utter chaos. He would just
laugh.
When people talk about David Lafargue, one thing was always stated,
“He was a man who believed in fairness to all. He always helped the
underdog.” David guided his ethical beliefs in the true meaning of
justice which requires “giving each person his due or what he
deserves.” Aristotle
David is survived by his wife Minnie Laborde Lafargue, his children
Clay Michael Lafargue, Ashley Dubea (Todd), Carl David Lafargue,
Lily Anne Brouillette (Alex) and eight grandchildren,

Chloe Lafargue, Colt Lafargue, Cadence Dubea, Lucy Lafargue, Jase
Dubea, Jordi Lafargue, Nellie Brouillette and Blaise Brouillette.
He is also survived by his siblings: Carol Lafargue from Baton Rouge,
Susan Maillet of Marksville and Edwin L. Lafargue (Karen) of
Marksville.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation to St. Jude in memory of
David and his youngest living grandson, Blaise Benton Brouillette.
There will be a celebration of life on Saturday August 15, 2026.
Everything will be held in St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Visitation will be from 9am- 10:30am.
At 10:30 am the rosary will be recited in the church. 
Celebration of Life Mass will begin at 11:00 am.
Interment will be held at a later date.
After the mass there will be meal at St. Joseph’s Church Hall for family
and friends.
