Ellis Joseph Scallan
December 16, 1942 – November 7, 2025

Ellis Joseph Scallan of Mansura, age 82, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family. Ellis attended Our Lady of Victory School, Mansura High School, and Cottonport Trade School where he earned his degree in accounting. Ellis worked as a butcher for approximately 40 years and worked at Hixson Brothers Funeral Home for about 20 years.

Ellis never met a stranger. He could hold a conversation with anyone about anything. Ellis’s priority in life was his family. He was a devoted husband and father. His greatest joy was when family gathered and shared a meal, always surrounded by and interacting with people who loved him and enjoyed seeing his smile and hearing his jokes. He loved fishing and cooking. He was a kind, loving, and compassionate man.

His courage and strength were evident in his final days. He will be tremendously missed and leaves a huge void in his family and friends, but we know he is praising God and finally seeing the daughter he never got to know.

Ellis is survived by his wife of 61 years, Freida Bernard Scallan; his children, Gordon Scallan (Lori) of Mansura, Darrin Scallan of Alexandria, and Stephanie Scallan of Alexandria; one grandson, Walter Thompson and one great-granddaughter, Alana Thompson of Houston, TX; two brothers, Percy P. Scallan, Jr. and Bruce Scallan; and one sister, Brenda Rousseau.

Ellis is preceded in death by his daughter, Angela Marie Scallan; his parents, Percy P. Scallan, Sr. and Rita Milligan Scallan; and brother, Murrell Scallan.

Those serving as pallbearers are Percy P. Scallan, Jr.; Bruce Scallan; Brett Scallan; James Couvillion; Ronald Bernard; Ryan Quebedeaux.

Visitation will be from 8am to 10:30am on November 15, 20125 at Hixson Brothers
Funeral Home in Marksville, with rosary at 10am.

A mass will follow at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Mansura, LA, with Father Blake officiating. The reader at the mass will be Lori Scallan. Interment will follow at St. Paul’s Mausoleum.
