Residents of Road District 2 will head to the polls on Saturday, Nov. 15 to vote on a proposition to renew a property tax that funds the maintenance and improvement of local roads, bridges, and drainage systems.
Road District 2 covers Simmesport, Moreauville, Big Bend, Hamburg, Plaucheville, Moreauville, Dupont, and Goudeau areas of Avoyelles Parish.
The Louisiana Secretary of State’s Office has certified one item on the ballot, asking voters whether to continue a 20-mill property tax on all taxable property within the district for another 10-year period, beginning in 2027 and ending in 2036.
According to the official notice, the tax renewal is projected to generate approximately $700,200 annually for:
• Operation and upkeep of public streets and highways
• Bridge construction and maintenance
• Equipment purchases
• Drainage improvements
Officials emphasize that this is not a new tax, but rather a renewal of an existing millage that has supported transportation infrastructure for decades.
