Road work moves forward in Avoyelles Parish: Major project nears completion, new lane closure announced
Overview
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has issued detailed updates on two significant road projects in Avoyelles Parish—offering encouraging progress and a reminder about upcoming lane closures.
Project Advances on LA-1181 and LA-1182
The asphalt overlay and base reconstruction on Louisiana Highway 1181 and Louisiana Highway 1182 is nearing completion.
Work includes base treatment, cement-treated base, cross-drain replacements, milling, and paving across a 3.05-mile stretch in the Moreauville / Plaucheville / Cottonport area.
DOTD records note the project’s scope and cost as part of the Fiscal Year 2025–26 Highway Priority Program, listing both LA 1181 and LA 1182 under preservation works for Avoyelles Parish.
Local officials and residents say the improvements are much needed; the existing pavement had shown frequent signs of wear and drainage issues, especially during heavy rain. The upgrade aims to improve durability, reduce maintenance disruptions, and enhance safety—particularly for school buses, agricultural haulers, and daily commuters.
Upcoming Lane Closure on LA-107
In addition to the overlay, DOTD has issued a lane-closure advisory for Louisiana Highway 107 at the bridge over Bayou Jack Relief near the community of Dupont.
- Schedule: Beginning Monday, October 27, 2025, lasting approximately four days
- Work hours: 7 a.m. – 4 p.m., weather permitting
- Restrictions: 12-foot width restriction during maintenance
- Traffic flow: One lane of the bridge will remain open at all times; no full detour is planned
The announcement reminds drivers that signs, traffic control devices, and flaggers will guide traffic through the zone. Motorists are urged to allow extra time and drive with caution.
A Message to Motorists
Sheriff David L. Dauzat of the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office commended DOTD and the community for their cooperation.
“We’re all relieved to see significant progress on LA 1181 and LA 1182. These improvements will benefit our entire parish. Please respect the work zones and be mindful of safety as crews complete the job.”
