State Championship for the Marksville Tigers

The Marksville Tigers are once again on top of Louisiana high school basketball.

With a commanding second-half performance, the Tigers secured the 2026 LHSAA Division III Non-Select State Championship with a 65-44 victory over Madison at Burton Coliseum in Lake Charles. The win marks the second state title for the program in the past three years and another milestone for a team that has consistently proven itself among the state’s best.

After a tightly contested first half, where Marksville held a narrow 26-23 lead, the Tigers surged after the break, outscoring Madison decisively to put the game out of reach. Their defensive pressure and balanced scoring attack sealed the championship.

Marksville’s success was not built on one performance alone. Throughout the postseason, the Tigers showed consistency, depth, and teamwork. The Tigers have made a habit of controlling games from start to finish, recording numerous victories this season by more than 20 points. Their ability to share the ball and play as a unit has been a defining factor, producing efficient scoring and strong overall play.

Key contributions came from multiple players throughout the postseason: - Armonii Benjamin’s leadership - Players like Dayne Small and Devin Lavalais provided crucial scoring, rebounding, and playmaking in big moments.

Head Coach O’kie Benjamin, in his first year back leading his alma mater, credited the team’s success to unity and commitment.

“I’m proud of the team and staff. The players committed to each other, and we’re thankful for the community support.”

That support has been evident throughout the Tigers’ run, with fans, students, and the entire Marksville community rallying behind the team during their championship push.

The victory caps off an impressive season for MHS, with strong performances, disciplined play, and a roster that consistently rose to the occasion. State Champions. Tiger Strong. Tiger Proud.
