My great grandparents drank water straight from the bayou and only spoke Cajun French. My grandparents drank water from a well and spoke both Cajun French and English.
My parents drank from the faucet and only knew a few phrases in French. I drink bottled water and have only heard a few Cajun phrases, and I am not even sure what they mean.
The moral of the story is that the way you drink your water decides how Cajun you are.
Now, speaking of watering holes, let’s talk about what is bubbling up around the parish this week. Squirrel season has started, deer season is coming and it is getting a little Airish in the parish.
Rumor has it the election for Road District Two is up in the air. Somebody said a school board member is paying for signs to go against the road district tax. Maybe he is not sure if he is on the school board or the police jury or maybe he ought to run for the police jury next time instead. Maybe the police juror and school board member should trade places.
Either way, Tee Alphonse thinks as long as the tax money goes toward building good roads and folks keep complaining about bad ones, what can it hurt?
And if we ever do get ourselves a Parish President one day, that person better have a real plan to fix all these roads like they did over in St. Landry Parish before anybody will vote to pass any taxes.
