TRAFFIC ALERT: RAILROAD CLOSURE ON LOUISIANA HIGHWAY 1178

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has announced a temporary road closure on Louisiana Highway 1178 at the Union Pacific Railroad crossing in Avoyelles Parish.

PROJECT DETAILS:•

Date and Time: Thursday, March 19, 2026, from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM (weather permitting).•

Location: Louisiana Highway 1178 (Milepost 154.810) at the Union Pacific Railroad crossing.•

Scope of Work: Crews will be surfacing the track through the crossing and replacing the surface pads.

DETOUR ROUTES:The roadway will be strictly closed during this timeframe. Motorists are advised to use the following detour routes:• Louisiana Highway 1178 to U.S. Highway 71 to Louisiana Highway 115 / Louisiana Highway 29.• Louisiana Highway 29 to Louisiana Highway 1178.

SAFETY REMINDER:Sheriff David L. Dauzat reminds all motorists to plan alternate routes in advance and drive with caution near the construction site. Please be mindful of the work crews and their equipment in the area.
