A Hunter Education Class

A Hunter Education Class will be held Friday, July 10, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturday, July 11, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The class will take place at the Moreauville Fire Station, located across from Avoyelles High.

Anyone attending must register online through the LDWF website under Hunter Education. Attendees must be 9 years old by Saturday, July 11, and must attend both days of class to be certified.

Revival Services at First Union Baptist Church

First Union Baptist Church, located at 1537 Bordelon Road in Bunkie, will hold revival services July 9 and July 10 at 6 p.m. nightly.

The July 9 revival speaker will be Pastor Stewart Holloway of First Baptist Church of Pineville.

The July 10 speaker will be Pastor Carl Sonnier of St. Peter Baptist Church in Lafayette.

The church will also hold its Usher Annual on Sunday, July 19, at 2 p.m. The guest speaker will be Pastor James Brodnax of Word of Faith Kingdom Church in Alexandria.

Avoyelles Council on Aging Garage Sale

The Avoyelles Council on Aging will hold an inside garage sale Friday, July 31, and Saturday, Aug. 1, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 224 South Preston Street in Marksville.

Items will include: - Furniture - Clothes in all sizes - Much more

All proceeds will benefit the Senior Citizens Meals Program.

Hot dog lunches will be sold on Friday.

Summer Fest at David Haas Memorial Methodist Church

Summer Fest is just three weeks away, and David Haas Memorial Methodist Church in Bunkie is inviting the community to come out for an afternoon of free family fun.

The event will be held Saturday, July 18, 2026, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at David Haas Memorial Methodist Church, located at 208 W. Church Street in Bunkie.

Summer Fest will include activities for children and families, along with food and fellowship. Planned activities include: - Jupiter jump/slide - Photo booth - Face painting booth - Arts and crafts - Corn hole - Sack races - Inflatable games

Food will also be part of the event, including: - Hamburgers - Hot dogs - An ice cream truck - A dessert station

Organizers said everything at the event will be free. Community members are encouraged to bring friends, neighbors, and family members and spend the afternoon meeting the people of David Haas Memorial Methodist Church.

The church hopes the event will offer a fun and welcoming way for families to enjoy the summer, connect with others, and take part in a day of good vibes, sunshine, and fellowship.

Summer Reading Events in July

The Avoyelles Parish Library will continue its 2026 Summer Reading Program in July with crafts, educational programs, and activities at branches across the parish.

July events include: - Take-home crafts - Seed art kits - Paper crafts - Whooping crane programs - Bee waterer and clay pot activities - Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries presentations

The month begins with July 4 take-home crafts on July 1 and July 2. Library branches will be closed Friday, July 3.

A โ€œTales With A Twistโ€ program will be held Tuesday, July 7, at 10 a.m. at the Bunkie Branch. An Aerial Arts/TWT program will be held Friday, July 10, at 10 a.m. at the Avoyelles Council on Aging in Marksville.

Paper craft programs will be held July 13 and July 14 at several branches, followed by whooping crane programs on July 15 and July 16.

Bee waterer and clay pot activities are scheduled July 20-23 at branch locations across the parish.

The month will close with Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries programs July 27-29 at several branches, including Bordelonville, Bunkie, Cottonport, Plaucheville, Moreauville, Simmesport, Marksville, Mansura, and Effie.

The Summer Reading Program gives children and families a way to stay active, creative, and engaged through hands-on learning and library activities during the summer months.

Avoyelles Flood Relief Donation Drive

The Avoyelles Arts Council and the Avoyelles Arts & Music Festival will host an Avoyelles Flood Relief Donation Drive on Saturday, July 4, 2026, during the Avoyelles Arts & Music Festival.

The drive is being held in response to the recent flooding in Avoyelles Parish. Donations and essential supplies will be collected to help families affected by the flood.

Items may be dropped off at the Welcome Center located inside the Mari Center on the festival grounds in Marksville.

Most needed items include: - Bottled water - Non-perishable food - Cleaning supplies - Paper towels - Toilet paper - Trash bags - Laundry detergent - Personal hygiene products - Baby supplies - Pet food - Pet supplies - Gift cards

Organizers said the recent flood has impacted many families in the community, and the donation drive is a way for neighbors to help neighbors as Avoyelles Parish recovers and rebuilds.
