🇺🇸 Veterans Day ceremonies set around parish 🇺🇸

Honoring those who served in Avoyelles Parish

On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918, a cease-fire agreement — called an armistice — was signed between the Allied forces and Germany, ending the “War to End All Wars.” From then on, Nov. 11 was known as Armistice Day.

The day is now known as Veterans Day, honoring all U.S. veterans who have served.

Avoyelles Parish has been represented in the ranks of veterans from the American Revolution to the War on Terror. Several communities will hold special ceremonies honoring the parish’s veterans.

Below is information submitted to the newspaper regarding local Veterans Day events:

📍 Nov. 8 — Fifth Ward

9 a.m. — Fifth Ward Veterans Program

The Fifth Ward/Moncla Knights of Columbus Council #9418 will host its annual Veterans Day Event at the Fifth Ward Veterans Memorial located on the grounds of Kramer Funeral Home, 1924 Hwy. 1 in Fifth Ward, Marksville.

Theme: “Because She Served... We Live in Freedom” — honoring the many women who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

• Opening & closing prayers by Deacons Darrell Dubroc and Ted Moulard
• Guest Speaker: 2Lt. Priscilla Marcotte Brouillette, U.S. Army Finance Corps

• Refreshments served by the Our Lady of Lourdes Altar Society

📍 Nov. 9 — Moreauville

2 p.m. — 4th Annual Veterans Day Ceremony

Held at the Moreauville Community Center.

Theme: “A Legacy of Loyalty and Service”

Hosted by VFW Auxiliary Post 3139 at Edgar Coco Park, Benjamin Drive.

Guest Speaker: Colonel (Ret.) Bruce A. Wilson
Refreshments served following the ceremony.

Held at Cottonport Veterans Memorial Wall, 1636 Front Street, near the U.S. Army tank.
