When You Realize You’re Living the Life You Once Prayed For

When You Realize You’re Living the Life You Once Prayed For

By Aliya Deshotel

The other day, I sat down with a potential client. She’s a local Christian author and had a beautiful devotional published (An award winning one actually!)

But the meeting turned into so much more than marketing.

She began sharing her story—how she never imagined herself publishing a book… let alone winning an award for it. As I listened to her speak, something hit me.

I wasn’t just hearing her story.

I was seeing my own.

I realized, in that moment, that I was sitting in a life I once prayed so hard for.

A few years ago, life felt different. I wasn’t unhappy—I had a good life—but I felt out of place. I was working a mentally exhausting job, my husband (then boyfriend) was away at college, and only seeing him on weekends was hard. I was ready for the next chapter—marriage, a home, a career closer to my roots in Avoyelles Parish—but it all felt just out of reach.

Every single day, I prayed.

Driving to work, sitting in silence, trying to understand why I felt so unsettled. I prayed for direction. For peace. For clarity. I just wanted to feel like I was where I was supposed to be.

And slowly… things began to change.

I got engaged.

I stepped into a marketing role to gain experience—even though it wasn’t perfect.

I got married—and with that, a deep sense of peace settled over my heart.

Then, after the wedding, I found myself right where I had hoped to be—a marketing position here at the newspaper, in the parish I love.

And somewhere in the middle of building that life, I created something for myself—my own little business - Cypress Socials. A way to help small businesses grow right here in Avoyelles Parish.

The same place I once prayed to be.

And it hit me:

Everything I once prayed for… I’m now living in. How beautiful is this.

“Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine…”

— Ephesians 3:20

How many times do we pray for something… and then forget to recognize it when we’re standing in it?

How many seasons feel confusing, uncomfortable, even frustrating—only for us to look back later and realize God was aligning everything perfectly?

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord…

“plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

— Jeremiah 29:11

Looking back, I can see it so clearly now.

The waiting.

The discomfort.

The feeling of being “out of place.”

It wasn’t punishment—it was preparation.

God was working in ways I couldn’t see at the time. He was shaping my path, strengthening my faith, and positioning me exactly where I needed to be.

And now, I sit here in a life filled with answered prayers—a loving husband who is truly my best friend, a supportive family, genuine friendships, and a career that allows me to serve the community I love. I find my husband and I constantly saying to each other “How blessed are we” or “How did we get so lucky” and “wow, it’s hard to have a bad day here” while doing the simplest things like cooking supper together, or just sitting on the porch on a beautiful day.

And I find myself asking:

How good is God?

“The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.”

— Psalms 126:3

So if you’re in a season where things feel uncertain… where you feel out of place, overwhelmed, or just ready for “what’s next”—don’t lose faith.

Pray anyway.

Trust anyway.

Keep going anyway.

Because one day, you might find yourself sitting in a moment—just like I did—realizing:

You are living in the very prayers you once cried out to God for.

And when that day comes, you’ll understand…

He was working all along.
