Avoyelles Sees Big Jump in Early Voting
Early and Absentee Votes Are In: Avoyelles Turnout Far Outpaces Recent Midterms
The 3,768 ballots cast during early voting represent 16.4 percent of Avoyelles Parish’s 23,038 registered voters, or about one in every six. Early voting for the Nov. 3 election ended Tuesday, and the count of in-person and mail ballots comes from the Louisiana Secretary of State’s final early voting report.
That is well above a typical midterm. It is about 59 percent more than the 2,370 who voted early in the 2022 midterm, nearly double the 1,913 in 2014, and more than twice the 1,606 in 2018. Compared to the average of the last three midterms, about 1,960, this year’s early vote is up roughly 92 percent. It still falls short of a presidential year. The total is about 28 percent below the 5,203 early votes cast in 2024 and about 31 percent below the 5,454 in 2020.
Of the 3,768 early ballots, 3,220 (85.5 percent) were cast in person and 548 (14.5 percent) by mail.
By race, 2,789 voters (74 percent) were white, 883 (23.4 percent) were Black and 96 (2.5 percent) were of other races. Women outnumbered men, 2,104 to 1,662.
By party registration, 1,721 early voters (45.7 percent) were registered Republicans, 1,393 (37 percent) were Democrats and 634 (16.8 percent) had no party affiliation. Another 20 were registered with other parties. These figures reflect how voters are registered, not how they voted.
Statewide, 520,942 Louisianans voted early. Registered Democrats made up 42.4 percent of those voters and Republicans 39.4 percent.
The parish total may still rise slightly. Mail ballots can still arrive through Nov. 2, and the Secretary of State’s final reports for past elections included those late ballots.
