Voter Registration Week underway in Louisiana!

BATON ROUGE — Louisiana residents are being encouraged to register to vote or check their registration information as the state observes Voter Registration Week Sept. 21-25.
Secretary of State Nancy Landry and parish Registrars of Voters are promoting voter registration ahead of the Nov. 3 election.
The deadline to register in person, by mail or through the Office of Motor Vehicles is Monday, Oct. 5. Residents using Louisiana’s online registration system have until Tuesday, Oct. 13.
“The first step to participating in the electoral process is registering to vote. It’s never been easier to register or update your registration information in Louisiana — any citizen with a Louisiana license or ID can register online in a matter of minutes at GeauxVote.com,” Landry said.
Who can register?
To register and vote in Louisiana, a person must be a U.S. citizen and a resident of the state and parish where he or she seeks to register.
Residents may register at age 17, or at age 16 when registering in person at a Registrar of Voters Office or Office of Motor Vehicles, but must be 18 before the next election to vote.
State law also includes eligibility requirements involving felony convictions and interdiction status.
Online registration must be completed at least 20 days before an election, while registration in person or by mail must be completed at least 30 days before an election.
How to register
Residents with a valid Louisiana driver’s license or Louisiana Special ID card can register or update their information online through the state’s Voter Portal. The online system requires information from the applicant’s Louisiana license or Special ID card.
Residents may also register in person at their parish Registrar of Voters Office, through the Office of Motor Vehicles when applying for or renewing a driver’s license, or through certain public assistance agencies and Armed Forces recruitment offices.
Voters can also use the state Voter Portal to check their registration and find parish-specific election information.
Avoyelles Parish
The statewide list of special Voter Registration Week events released for Sept. 21-25 does not list an Avoyelles Parish event. The Secretary of State’s event schedule advises residents to contact their parish Registrar of Voters office for a complete local schedule.
For the Nov. 3 election, early voting will be held Oct. 20-27, excluding Sunday, Oct. 25, from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Polls will be open Election Day from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
