Judicial Election Field Begins to Take Shape in Avoyelles Parish ⚖️
AVOYELLES PARISH, La. — Voters in Avoyelles Parish will cast ballots for both Division A and Division B seats on the 12th Judicial District Court during the 2026 election cycle.
The names currently listed are candidates who have announced their campaigns and confirmed their intentions with Avoyelles Publishing. This is not the official qualifying list. Official qualifying with the Louisiana Secretary of State is scheduled for Aug. 5-7. Be advised that other candidates could come out and announce their candidacy as the campaigns continue.
In Division A, Alissa Piazza Tassin has announced as a candidate for District Judge. Former 12th Judicial District Court Judge Mark Jeansonne has also announced his campaign for re-election.
In Division B, Barry Laiche, Kirk P. LaCour and Wesley Elmer have each announced campaigns for District Judge.
The 12th Judicial District Court serves Avoyelles Parish and handles a range of legal matters, including criminal, civil, family and juvenile cases. District judge races are among the most important local elections because court decisions can directly affect individuals, families, businesses and the community as a whole.
Because voters will decide both Division A and Division B races, residents are encouraged to follow the campaigns, review each candidate’s background and watch for official election information once qualifying is complete.
