Know a young leader in Avoyelles? John Lewis award nominations close Nov. 20
Louisiana Secretary of State Nancy Landry has announced that applications are now being accepted for the 2026 John Lewis Youth Leadership Award, recognizing young people who demonstrate outstanding leadership and commitment to their communities.
Avoyelles Parish residents are encouraged to consider nominating local young people who are making a positive difference through community service, civic involvement and leadership.
Established in 2021 by the National Association of Secretaries of State, the award honors the legacy of the late Congressman John Lewis and recognizes young individuals dedicated to improving their communities.
Nominees must be 25 years old or younger at the time of the award presentation and must demonstrate leadership, civic involvement and a meaningful commitment to positive change.
Individuals may nominate themselves or be nominated by someone else through the online application available at sos.la.gov.
Applications must be submitted by 4:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20. A Louisiana recipient will be selected by the end of November and will compete with honorees from other states at the national level.
The award offers an opportunity to recognize young Louisianans, including those in Avoyelles Parish, whose efforts are helping strengthen their schools, neighborhoods and communities.
