Not New Taxes: Avoyelles Voters to Decide Future School Funding This Month
On Saturday, June 27, 2026, Avoyelles Parish voters will decide whether to renew three existing taxes that help fund the Avoyelles Parish School System.
These are not new taxes. The ballot asks voters whether to continue taxes that are already in place and currently support local schools.
½-Cent Sales Tax Renewal
This existing ½-cent sales tax helps fund the day-to-day operation of schools throughout Avoyelles Parish.
The money is used for:
- Utilities
- Building maintenance and repairs
- Facility improvements
- Classroom resources
- Instructional technology
- Athletic programs and equipment
This tax is collected when purchases are made in Avoyelles Parish or when online purchases are delivered to an address within the parish. A portion of those sales tax dollars goes directly toward supporting local students, teachers, and schools.
Proposition 1 – Special Maintenance (5 Mills) Renewal
This existing property tax helps cover the daily operation and maintenance of school facilities.
Funds are used for:
- Maintaining safe and functional school buildings
- Utilities
- Transportation-related operations
- Staffing needed to support students and schools across the parish
Proposition 2 – General Fund (5 Mills) Renewal
This existing property tax helps fund long-term investments within the school system.
Funds are used for:
- Salaries
