Suspect Arrested Following Shooting in Bunkie Family Dollar Parking Lot

A Bunkie man has been arrested after a shooting incident in the parking lot of a local Family Dollar store Saturday morning.

According to the Bunkie Police Department, officers responded to a 911 call around 9:30 a.m. on April 18, 2026, reporting a shooting at the store located on NW Main Street.

When officers arrived, they determined that two men had been involved in a verbal dispute that escalated. During the confrontation, one of the individuals allegedly produced a handgun and fired, striking the other man in the leg.

The victim was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment and has since been released.

Authorities identified the suspect as Charles Lee, 79, of Bunkie. He was taken into custody at the scene and later booked into the Avoyelles Parish Detention Center.

Lee is facing multiple charges, including:

  • Attempted Second Degree Murder
  • Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon
  • Illegal Use of Weapons
  • Disturbing the Peace

Officials remind the public that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
