🚨 U.S. House Races Suspended: What You Need to Know for May 16! 🗳️

U.S. House Races Suspended, May 16 Election Still On

The May 16 election will still take place as scheduled, but voters will not be selecting a U.S. Representative at this time.

According to Louisiana Secretary of State Nancy Landry, all races and propositions will remain on the ballot except for U.S. House of Representatives races, which have been suspended following a recent court ruling.

The decision comes after the United States Supreme Court found Louisiana’s current congressional district map to be an unconstitutional gerrymander. As a result, the state cannot move forward with congressional elections under the current map.

Early voting for the May 16 election began Saturday, May 2, and will continue as planned across the state.

While U.S. House races will still appear on ballots, any votes cast in those contests will not be counted. Notices are being posted at early voting locations to inform voters of the change.

State officials say all other races and propositions will proceed as normal, and voters are encouraged to participate in the election.

A new congressional district map must be approved before those races can be rescheduled.
