Several community, church and summer events are scheduled across Avoyelles Parish in the coming weeks.
David Haas Methodist plans Summer Fest
David Haas Memorial Methodist Church will host its Summer Fest on Saturday, July 18, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at 208 W. Church Street in Bunkie.
The event is free to attend and will include family-friendly activities such as a bouncy house, crafts, a photo booth, corn hole, face painting, an ice cream truck, sack races, food and snack stands, a raffle and more.
Community members are invited to come enjoy an afternoon of fun and meet the members of the church.

Friends of Library Used Book Store to open extra days in summer
There will be an additional day each month this summer for shoppers to visit the Friends of the Library Used Book Store, located behind the Marksville library.
The store will be open Wednesdays, June 17, July 15 and Aug. 19, from 9 a.m. to noon. The book store will also be open on the first Saturday of the month as usual.
Hardback books are 25 cents, and softback and paperback books are 10 cents. The book store has a selection of popular authors, Christian authors, spiritual books, fiction, nonfiction and children’s books. Magazines are always free.
The inventory is constantly being added to.
Children’s Wagon Parade set during Corn Festival
The Children’s Wagon Parade will be held Friday, June 12, as part of the 38th Annual Louisiana Corn Festival.
Children ages 8 and under are invited to participate by decorating a pull wagon to show their Corn Festival spirit. No motorized wagons will be allowed, and each child must be accompanied by an adult.
Registration will begin at 3:45 p.m. Lineup will start at 4 p.m., and the parade will begin at 4:30 p.m. around the tennis court near the bandstand.
Participants are reminded that no throws will be allowed. Families are encouraged to come out, enjoy the festival atmosphere and cheer on the young participants as they show off their decorated wagons.

St. John Baptist to honor Pastor Donald Tibbs
St. John Baptist Church of Evergreen will celebrate the 22nd Pastoral Appreciation honoring Pastor Donald Tibbs on Sunday, June 7, at 3 p.m.
Members of St. John Baptist Church invite the community to attend and join them in recognizing Pastor Tibbs for his years of leadership, service and dedication to the church family.
Special guests for the occasion will be House of Praise FGMB Church of Alexandria, along with Bishop Wayne Thomas.

Pre-Father’s Day Program set at First Saint Joseph
First Saint Joseph Baptist Church, located at 1151 Carl Hunt Road in Bunkie, will hold a Pre-Father’s Day Program on Sunday, June 14, beginning at 11 a.m.
The public is invited to attend for a day of old-time country church services. Weather permitting, activities will take place on the church grounds immediately following the communion service inside.

Mansura Farmers Market set for June 14
The Mansura Tractor Supply Farmers Market will be held Sunday, June 14, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Tractor Supply Co., located at 7686 LA-1 in Mansura.
The public is invited to stop by and support local vendors during the market. Anyone interested in setting up as a vendor may contact Ali Bonds at 318-753-3060.
Organizers noted that poultry is still not allowed at this time.
