Wanted man taken into custody in Marksville

A wanted fugitive was taken into custody in Marksville following a foot pursuit involving several law enforcement agencies, according to the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

On Monday, June 15, Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office Crime Suppression agents, along with Louisiana Probation and Parole, assisted the Marksville Police Department in apprehending Matthew Moses Davis in Marksville.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Davis was wanted on active arrest warrants for domestic abuse battery and aggravated assault.

Officers located Davis in the area of Legion Drive. When Marksville Police attempted to make contact with him, authorities said Davis fled on foot across multiple streets and into a wooded area.

The Sheriff’s Office said the foot pursuit lasted approximately one and a half hours in the pouring rain and crossed multiple ravines before Davis was apprehended. He was taken into custody without further incident.

Davis was booked into the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office DC-1 on charges filed by the Marksville Police Department, including domestic abuse battery, aggravated assault, theft, unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling and eight counts of resisting an officer.

Sheriff David L. Dauzat thanked the deputies, Marksville Police Department and Louisiana Probation and Parole for their teamwork during the apprehension.

“All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.”
