Cricket the calf brings hands-on agriculture to Marksville High
After all the love, care and attention Cricket received last Friday, she came back to school like a new calf. Marksville High’s FFA students say Cricket is full of energy, curious about everything and eager to learn about agriculture.
She especially loves drinking milk from a bottle, and her playful, friendly personality is winning over not only ag students, but also the principal. FFA members have enjoyed showing their classmates what it takes to care for a young calf, including feeding, handling and understanding her daily needs.
The experience is giving students a real-world look at agriculture and how it connects to animal care, responsibility and leadership. Cricket’s presence on campus is also helping students see how agriculture can create meaningful, hands-on learning opportunities that go beyond the classroom. At the end of the day, Cricket heads home exhausted after a busy day of making new friends, exploring her surroundings and learning alongside Marksville High students. Marksville High FFA thanked Mrs. Kristin for making sure Cricket was fed and cared for and for helping make the experience possible for students.
“There’s just something special about bringing agriculture into the classroom,” the FFA wrote. “Sometimes the best lessons come with four legs, a bottle of milk, and a whole lot of personality!”
